What is the minimum age for riding lessons?

We start riding lessons for children from the age of 9.

What is the maximum weight for riding lessons?  

The maximum weight that we accept for riding lessons is 85kg. Riders are required to provide their weight at the point of booking in order to arrange for appropriate horses.

How long is a riding lesson?

Each riding lesson is 45 minutes long.

I am a beginner. Can I take a group lesson?

All our beginner lessons are private riding lessons (i.e. one instructor to one student). Therefore, a one-off lesson will be charged at the private lesson rate of RM130 on weekdays and RM180 on weekends. We currently also offer an intensive Beginner’s Course of 5 lessons from RM400 - please refer to our Price List for details.

What can I expect to learn in the Beginner’s Course?

The intensive beginner’s course consists of five lessons, including one horsemanship lesson (which is unmounted) and four private riding lessons from RM400 on weekdays (a surcharge of RM25 per lesson applies for lessons during peak hours). The course is designed such that it can be completed within 2 days (2 riding lessons in a day); however, riders can arrange to complete the lessons at their preferred schedule within one month, subject to availability of slots.

 

The course aims to provide riders with an introduction to horses and riding, and riders can expect to learn :

  • Introduction to safety and care of horses

  • Mounting and dismounting

  • Moving off and stopping

  • Direction and controls

  • Rising trot

 

Is there an expiry date for the Beginner’s Course package?

Yes, you need to complete the 5 lessons in the beginner’s course within one month from the date of purchase. 

I am an experienced rider. Can I take a group lesson?

In general, riders who are able to walk, trot and canter independently are able to participate in a group lesson. At the moment, we do not have regularly scheduled group lessons, but you are welcome to make up your own group of between 2 to 4 people. First-time riders at Horse Valley Riding Academy need to be assessed by our riding instructors before participating in a group lesson. The assessment lesson is similar to a private lesson, and will be charged at the same rate as a private lesson.

Do you all have trail rides?

No, unfortunately, we do not currently offer trail rides, only riding lessons within our premises.

Is prior booking required?

Yes, prior booking is essential for riding lessons. Bookings need to be made at least 24 hours in advance and can be made up to one month in advance. As lessons are subject to availability, we encourage you to book in advance to avoid disappointment. 

 

How can I make a booking?

You can contact us to make a booking by any of the following means :

 

Do note that a 50% deposit is required to secure your booking. Payment can be made by bank transfer to a Singapore or Malaysian bank account. The balance needs to be paid prior to the start of class. We do not accept credit cards.

What is a joy ride?

A joy ride, sometimes also known as a ‘pony ride’ or ‘fun ride’, is led by a handler at a walk. Each round is about 5 minutes long. Younger children (below the age of 9) can participate in joy rides and no riding experience is required. For joy rides, please feel free to walk in during our operating hours from 7:30am to 11am and 4pm to 6pm from Tuesdays to Sundays. No prior booking is required. The last ride is 30 minutes before closing.

What is the dress code required?

For beginners, please come in at least long pants and covered shoes. We provide helmets. For details, please refer to our post on ‘What to Wear When Horseback Riding’ here

 

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellations need to be made at least 3 days in advance, otherwise the 50% deposit will be retained. For cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, the full lesson fee is chargeable. 

What happens if it rains? 

All our riding lessons are carried out outdoors and is thus subject to the weather. Lessons can still proceed as usual in light rain. In case of heavy rain and / or lightning, the lesson will need to be either cancelled or rescheduled. In case of cancellation, any deposit made will be refunded.
